Gestational Surrogacy
A gestational carrier, or surrogate, is someone who carries and gives birth to a child for another person or couple. No matter the reason for choosing one, using a gestational surrogate is a valid path to parenthood. At Aspire Fertility, we're committed to guiding our patients through every step of the surrogacy journey to make the process as smooth and stress-free as possible.
Who Benefits From Using a Surrogate?
Not all women can carry and deliver a child to term. An aspiring parent may want to use a gestational carrier if they:
- Have no uterus
- Have a medical condition, like lupus or advanced heart disease, that can lead to significant pregnancy complications
- Have a structural issue that prevents the uterus from successfully carrying a pregnancy
- Have experienced recurrent pregnancy loss
- Have had multiple unexplained IVF failures
LGBTQ+ couples and aspiring single parents can also use a gestational surrogate to expand their families.
The Gestational Surrogacy Process
Gestational surrogates do not have a genetic connection to the children they deliver. Through the process of in vitro fertilization (IVF), eggs are retrieved from the female partner or a separate egg donor, and sperm is collected from the male partner or a separate sperm donor. Then, the eggs are fertilized with sperm in a lab, and the resulting embryos are inserted into the gestational carrier’s uterus, hopefully resulting in a successful pregnancy.
Finding a Gestational Surrogate
Finding your ideal surrogate is a highly personal decision. with several reputable surrogacy agencies that can pair you with a surrogate who best meets your needs. The surrogacy agencies we partner with have specific requirements for potential surrogates, and they conduct physical and mental screenings to ensure their surrogates can safely deliver a child for someone else.
Once you choose your surrogate, our team will proceed with the IVF process, working alongside the surrogacy agency to ensure all parties are on the same page throughout this journey. We also work with lawyers who specialize in third-party reproduction, so you can breathe easy knowing your legal rights as the intended parent are protected from start to finish.
